Ms. Sakar's 1st Grade Class

Waqaa!

My name is Ms. Sakar. Welcome to Elicarvicuar Elementary School’s First Grade Classroom! I am excited to be a positive, Indigenous , Yup’ik role model teaching your children, and grandchildren the love of learning at the beginning of their Educational Journey.

I am the youngest of 8 children born to Sophie, and the late Sinka Sakar, Sr. of Chuathbaluk, AK. I have been working with children all of my life. I graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1997. I recently completed my Science of Reading Endorsement.

I have five daughters. We love to go boating, hunting, camping, fishing, and berry picking.

I am overjoyed to be returning as the First Grade Teacher. I have been looking forward to teaching primary level students for a long time because that is where my heart is the happiest. I previously taught the 5th, and 6th grade classes at Elicarvicuar Elementary School. I am excited to have the opportunity to have some siblings of my former students. I love the culture of the school, and community. We feel very welcomed in the community, and it is true that home is where your heart is at. Upon returning to St. Mary’s, everyone we crossed paths with said, “Welcome home.”
